Whether it’s jewellery, art, textiles or souvenirs — it’s everywhere. And for good reason. The pomegranate has long been a national symbol of life, resilience, and unity for Armenians, its many seeds said to represent the strength of the community.

That idea stayed with me ever since a family trip to Armenia in 2004. I remember seeing the pomegranate woven into everything. But it wasn’t until recently — with the rise of those vintage fruit graphic tees — that the inspiration clicked. I noticed there were designs celebrating Italian lemons, French cherries, and Californian oranges… but where was the Armenian pomegranate?

So I made one.

🍴 A Taste of Home

This design is more than a trend. It’s layered with personal memory. Growing up in Iran, some of my earliest memories are of my dad bringing home giant, deep red pomegranates after work. They were twice the size of the ones you get here in the UK. My brother and I would squeeze the fruit all the way round, bursting the seeds inside. Then you’d bite a corner of the skin and drink the juice like a pouch. After that, you’d tear it open, sprinkle a little salt, and eat the seeds. It was a whole ritual — and to this day, when I see a proper pomegranate, I’m instantly transported back to being six years old.

🎨 Designing the Symbol

I knew I wanted the artwork to have a vintage, almost botanical print feel, so I went with a watercolour style, and added worn, textural details to age the piece and give it depth. The “Hye Society” fruit sticker on the front and back was my way of tying the brand into the design without slapping a bold logo across it — and also a nod to the labels you see on real fruit.

When I showed the shirt to my gran on FaceTime, she lit up. She said, “That’s right. He’s not lying!” after I read her the line printed under the design — a reminder that this fruit carries deep meaning for Armenians across generations. That moment confirmed it for me.

🌍 Putting Armenia on the Map

A big part of what drives Hye Society is making space for Armenian culture in the everyday. I see so many tees out there that showcase other countries through food, drink or scenery — and I wanted Armenia to have its own slice of that space. Fruit has always been a centrepiece at our family gatherings — it’s a cultural staple, not just a snack. So this shirt isn't just a design; it’s a tribute to that memory, that pride, and that tradition.

This is what Hye Society is about. Telling personal stories. Wearing your culture. And giving everyday pieces a little more soul.

Discover the inspiration behind our pomegranate t-shirt.
